African Villages was founded in 2018 by Scholastica Kioko and her mother Caroline Mutio with a simple but powerful mission: to bring authentic Kenyan craftsmanship to the global market, especially the United States, while creating meaningful opportunities for local artisans. What began as a small family idea quickly evolved into a purpose-driven brand rooted in culture, creativity, and community. Inspired by the beauty of African heritage and the growing global appreciation for handmade artistry showcased across African lifestyle and culture platforms on Instagram, the founders built a space where traditional craftsmanship could thrive. Working closely with talented women groups and artisans in Nairobi and Machakos County, African Villages continues to celebrate handmade excellence, preserve cultural identity, and empower communities through every carefully crafted piece shared with the world.
